If these walls could talk… A little History
The Cherry Warehouse Loft is affectionately named such because you are staying in what used to be the office of the TC Cherry Canning Company (which began operations in 1903) and before that the Lardy Potato Warehouse. During such time the entire building acted as a warehouse weigh station.
- Delivery trucks would unload cherries on the south side of the building (Lake Street).
- Cherries were weighed on a huge scale underneath the floor (still there). In the Northern Express Room of The Parlor, you can see part of the original scale converted into a wine rack. The iron beam on the ceiling was used to transport goods to the scale to be weighed and then onward to the appropriate door to be shipped throughout the U.S. via rail cars. There used to be train tracks on the northern side of the building (parking lot).
- The truck drivers who delivered the goods would then come up the stairs to the pay window (in your bedroom) to receive payment for their goods. We often joke saying we are the only people in TC with a pay window in our bedroom.
- There are several historic photos of the building located downstairs in The Parlor. Try the famous Smoke Stack (bourbon smoked by flame) and see if you can find the artifacts.
